Edmund Gurney in the role of Alfred Doolittle in George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion which first opened in London on 11 April 1914 starring Mrs Patrick Campbell and Sir Herbert Tree as Eliza Doolittle and Professor Henry Higgins repsectively. The Sketch magazine dubs it 'Mr. Bernard Shaw's "Naughty Word" Play' because Eliza utters the word, 'bloody'!
