Description Edward Moss with children at the London Hippodrome
Details

Cartoon of Sir Horace Edward Moss ((1852 - 1912), British theatre impresario and the founder, chairman and joint managing director of the Moss Empires Ltd, the largest group of variety theatres in the UK during the early twentieth century. Well-known for opening the London Hippodrome in 1900, an immense and innovative variety theatre which was the flagship of the group. Caricatured by Thomas Downey in The Illustrated Sporting & Dramatic News, 5 January 1901, receiving compliments from children who tell him that while they love the zoo, they love the Hippodrome because you get the pantomime and zoo combined.
