Elsie Janis (March 16, 1889 – February 26, 1956), American singer, songwriter, actress, and screenwriter. Entertaining the troops during World War I immortalized her as "the sweetheart of the AEF" (American Expeditionary Force). Pictured in The Sketch at the time she was leaving London and her popular role in a revue at the Palace Theatre, 'The Passing Show,' to go back to America. She would return periodically throughout the war and remained one of London's favourite and highest paid actresses.
