Description Empire Day - Union Jack sent from England to Australia

A Union Jack flag, sent by the girls and boys of the Blackley Municipal School in Manchester to those of Wellington Road School, Adelaide, Australia, as a mark of the bond between Britain and Australia on Empire Day. Empire Day was instigated by the Earl of Meath and celebrated on Queen Victoria's birthday, May 24th each year. The day was focused on children and aimed to educate them about the Empire and recognise the ties between nations within the British Empire.
