Page from The Sphere with pictures reporting on the erection of the memorial to Edith Cavell at the junction of St. Martin's Lane and Charing Cross Road in central London, close to Trafalgar Square. Edith Cavell was a British nurse arrested by the Germans in August 1915 on charges of helping 200 Allied soldiers escape to the Netherlands. She was executed on October 12th 1915. The memorial, which included a statue of Cavell by sculptor George Frampton, was unveiled by Queen Alexandra on 17 March 1920.
