Description Excavated houses unearthed at Herculaneum
Details

An ancient Roman town unearthed beneath thirty feet of solidified mud from the great eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The first year of excavations at Herculaneum showing excavated houses at the Western end, and new digging towards the centre. Many houses contained wooden furniture, carefully carved and with wooden staircases partly intact.
