Men carry extra bedding aboard the Queen Mary ship for additional passengers, departing the UK following the outbreak of war in September 1939. The Queen Mary was a famous British passenger ship, making its last peacetime voyage to America in late August. Following the German invasion of Poland and allied ultimatum, the ship was warned of potential submarine threat and remained in America once it arrived.
