Published as part of her obituary, this illustration of Miss Anna Marie Hlawaczek shows her in Africa on her journey from Cape Town to Cairo with two women behind her, possibly two of her three attendants. The accompanying article describes how Miss Hlawaczek died of exhaustion after contracting a fever and dysentery in her quest to outdo the exploits of Mrs French Sheldon, an American explorer whose travels in Africa had inspired her.
