Three female postal workers walking through a London street in full uniform and with satchels to carry their post. During the war, the Post Office lost 75,000 employees to military service and was able to form a battalion comprising entirely of postal staff. This loss was managed by the employment of women and by 1916 35,000 women had jobs at the Post Office.
