On the Twelfth Eve in Devonshire, it was custom for the farmer to leave his warm fireside accompanied by a band of rustics with guns and blunderbusses, goto the orchard, select one of the most fruitful aged of apple-trees, group round sining "Here's to thee, old apple-tree! Whence thou may'st bud, and whence thou may'st bera apples enow: Hats fuul! Caps full! Bushels, bushels sacks full! And my pockets full too! Huzz! Huzz! Cider is then passed round and many hearty shouts and the party fire at the tree.
