On 11th November 1919, the first anniversary of Armistice day, the Britsh nation, in response to an invitation by King George V, stood in silence for two minutes at 11 o'clock in remembrance of all who had given their lives in the First World War. Here is a photograph of King George V, laying a wreath at cenotaph a monument erected in honour of people whose remains are elsewhere, located in Whitehall, London.
