Details

Flight Lieutenant James Brindley Nicolson shooting down a Messerschmitt 110 fighter-bomber over Southampton on 16th August 1940. Nicolson won the Victoria Cross for this action because he had already been badly wounded in the 'dog-fight' and his own airplane, a Hawker Hurricane, was on fire.
