American Lincoln Ellsworth and his British colleague and pilot, Herbert Hollick-Kenyon who on 23 November 1935, started from Dundee Island in an aeroplane 'Polar Star', flying 2000 miles across the Antarctic to the Bay of Whales, on the Ross Sea. The Antarctic flight stopped prematurely, due to fuel shortages, and had to be rescued by British Royal research ship 'Discovery II' nothing was heard until 17 January 1936, they were rescued 420 miles away at Little America, were they had been missing for seven weeks.
