The organiser of the Sportsman's Battalion and her husband, the recruiting-officer-in-chief, Mr and Mrs Cunliffe Owen. Mrs Cunliffe Owen conceived the idea of raising the Sportsman's Battalion where members from the sporting world joined up together on the same principle as Pals Battalions. Mrs Cunliffe Owen had the distinction of having been born in Kensington Museum.
