Description | French Soldiers cutting up dead Horses; Franco-Prussian War |
Details |
French soldiers cutting up dead horses for meat, after the failure of 'La Grande Sortie', during the Franco-Prussian War, November 1870. The failure of 'La Grande Sortie', the French generals to break the Prussian lines and end the siege of Paris, was the turning point of the Franco-Prussian War. Communication between the divisions of the French army was so poor that coordinated action was impossible, whilst the French troops were unruly and hungry, making Prussian victory inevitable.
