The grim realism of war captured in the French film, Verdun, telling the story of the ferocious German onslaught and the heroic French defence. Scene shows the defence and ultimate surrender of Fort Vaux, where forces held out in the face of bombardments, only evacuating their stronghold when the enemy had penetrated into the ramifications of the fortress itself.
