Fridtjof Nansen (1861 - 1930), Norwegian explorer, biologist and oceanographer, pictured at Cape Flora, Franz Josef Land. Nansen reached the safety of Cape Flora at the end of his 'Fram' expedition of 1893-6, where he was welcomed by the members of the Jackson-Harmsworth Arctic Expedition.
