The Navy's most romantic expedition: from the Thames to Lake Tanganyika by river, sea and land. Upper image shows the river journey of the Lualaba: the Mimi motor boat passing downstream with a boat-load of natives and stores in tow. The lower image shows spoon-feeding the thirsty traction engines: native women coming in after an eight-mile tramp, with water jars to fill the boilers.
