French actress Gaby Deslys, pictured outside the Savoy Hotel on French Flag Day acknowledging a Scottish soldier in a kilt who raises his bonnet to her while a comrade buys a tricolour from her. Hugely popular during the First World War, Gaby was an indefatigable worker for charitable causes during the war, as well as performing in numerous shows and revues in London. The crowds surrounding her in this photograph are testament to her popularity.
