Galileo Galilei, Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer and philosopher. He got into trouble with the church over his claim that the sun, and not the earth, is at the centre of the universe. Seen here visited by the English poet, John Milton, while under house arrest by the Inquisition, at his villa in Arcetri, near Florence, in 1638.
