British Field Artillery of the British Expeditionary Force gallop along the road to Mons to engage the German advance into Belgium for the first time. This illustration, based on a sketch by en eyewitness, was claimed to be the first drawing of the British Expeditionary Force in action in France by the Illustrated London News.
