George Hoellering (1897-1980), Austrian film director, editor and producer, pictured outside the Academy Cinema at the junction of Poland Street and Oxford Street in London. Hoellering was the director of the cinema from 1944 until his death in 1980 and was responsible for establishing the Academy as a leading arthouse cinema, showing a wide variety of quality foreign language films.
