Description George V seriously injured by horse
Details

On the 28 October 1915, King George V was thrown by a horse when inspecting the army in France, the horse that George V was riding got excited by the cheers of the troops, reared up the King managed to regain control, but the horse reared up again and fell backwards, throwing him to the ground. He was severely bruised and his heavy smoking exacerbated recurring breathing problems. Pictured here in a hospital train, pinning the Victoria Cross on the tunic of Lance-Sergeant Oliver Brooks.
