Picture No 10639970
Date 1946
Description German prisoners in Britain, baking bread, 1946
Details

German prisoners in Britain post-World War Two. Rolling dough for the camp's bread, a highly skilled job performed by prisoners who were all bakers before the war, with excellent results. The ILN writes that the prisoners have only one real complaint - uncertainty, and that at the time of writing the British Government had not yet announced its future plans even though hostilities ceased over a year before.
