Essen in Germany, was a target for bombing due to its industrial centre. In April 1945 Essen was occupied by allied troops. This photograph shows allied troops examining the 28 yard long barrels, of an ultra-heavy artillery weapon, that was believed to be designed for long distance shelling of London.
