Also known as Victoria Regia. An example is displayed at Chatsworth where a young lady stands on a leaf to demonstrate its strength. According to popular opinion, the engineer, Joseph Paxton studied the cross ribbed underside of the leaves to come up with his designs for the Crystal Palace.
