The gigantic Christmas tree at Crystal Palace, Sydenham which occupied the central transept. The general design was carried out by Mr Hurwitz, 'loaded with a variety of ornaments and nicknacks, a profusion of large and small elegant Chinese lamps, and a number of flags and banners of all nations.'
