Description | Grand Pier at Weston-Super-Mare burns down in 1930 |
Details |
Fire visible across the Bristol Channel, broke out on the pavilion on the Grand Pier at Weston-Super-Mare. The pavilion was completely destroyed with surrounding amusement booths and part of the pier itself. The rescue effort was hampered by the water supply to the pier having been cut off at the shore end as the attraction was closed for the winter. The flames were so high they were visible from Cardiff. The Grand Pier was reconstructed, but suffered the same tragic fate on the morning of the 28th July 2008 as fire once again destroyed this magnificent structure.
