A portrait of Greta Garbo on her yacht off Catalina Island. Greta Garbo was born in Stockholm and was 'spotted' whilst studying at the Royal Theatre Dramatic School by the Swedish director Mauritz Stiller. Her first Hollywood film was 'The Temptress' 1926. Amongst her other successes are, 'Queen Christie' (1930), 'Anna Karenina' (1935) and 'Ninotchka' (1939). She retired from films in 1941, after receiving poor reviews for 'Two-Faced Woman' spending the rest of her life living as a recluse in New York.
