Gun crew of a Basque armed trawler manning their 75mm weapon, near Bilbao, 1937. The trawler, called the 'Donostia', was converted to military purposes at Bilbao and armed from the arsenal at Euzkalduna. The Basques fought for the Government, during the Spanish Civil War, against General Franco's Nationalist forces.
