Launched by King Edward VII in 1903, the Royal Navy battleship was one of eight in her own class of which she was the lead ship. Following the outbreak of World War One, the King Edward served on the Northern Patrol. In January 1916 she struck a mine while on the way to Belfast for a refit, and sank.
