Description H.M. Stanley's meeting with Forest Pygmies, Central Africa.

Sir Henry Morton Stanley (1841 - 1904), Anglo-American explorer and journalist, meeting with some forest pygmies, during one of his expeditions to Central Africa. This pygmies eating snake round a large cooking pot. In October 1869, Stanley was sent by James Gordon Bennett (the owner of the New York Herald) to find Dr. David Livingstone, who had been exploring central Africa for several years without passing any communication to Europe. In 1871 Stanley found Livingstone at Ujiji, Tanganika, and with it also, fame and some fortune. Stanley led several further expeditions to Africa, the last of these in 1886 to find and relieve Emin Pasha. In 1892 he took British citizenship and was Unionist MP for Lambeth between 1895 and 1900.
