Description Hard times in the East End - distress in West Ham.
Details

The densely populated working district of West Ham feeling the pinch of winter very bitterly. 40,000 persons were on the verge of starvation. A great 'shilling fund' was set up by the 'Daily Telegraph' and the relief work was actively pushed forward by the local clergy, the Salvation Army, the municipal and volunteer workers.
