Hatfield House, ancestral home of the Cecils, as a military hospital in World War Two. The 4th Marquess of Salisbury offered its use. In the Long Gallery, restored and maintained in the Italianesque style of its period, patients, orderlies and nurses meet for meals and recreation amid seasonable decorations.
