Details

Henri Rochefort (1831 - 1913), editor and proprietor of the 'Marseillaise' republican newspaper and supporter of the Paris Commune of 1871. Rochefort was imprisoned for libel against Napoleon III, following the death of one of his journalists, Victor Noir, who was shot by the emperor's cousin. Because of his active role in the Commune, Rochefort was deported to Australia in 1873.
