Description	Ice-cutting on the Hudson River 1875
Details	General view of gathering of ice at the Hudson River, hundred miles above the city of New York. Work was commenced during the winter months, when the thickness of nine inches was reached, at various convenient points along the banks of the river were plowmen with plows of deeper blade sink the groove to depth of three inches and continue this operation until a sufficient depth is attained, just enough ice is left to hold the blocks firmly together. The next operation is to separate a raft of the blocks by taps of the heavy ice chisel.
