Photograph of crowds of immigrants arriving at the train station in Winnipeg, Canada, 1909. Winnipeg was at that time the chief distributing centre for Western Canada. The need for farm labour encouraged immigrants from all over Europe and America to head for Canada. Twenty thousand Britons emigrated to Canada in the spring of 1909.
