The Irish Relief Squadron, under The Duke of Edinburgh, distributing stores and provisions from H.M.S. Valorous at Kilkerran, Ireland. Extreme hunger and poverty among millions of the Irish were brought on by the potato famine in the mid 19th century and further compounded by the forced evictions of poverty-stricken peasants from their homes and farms.
