Description | Jimmy the Bulldog at the Royal Society |
Details |
Jimmy, a Bulldog owned by Dr A.D.Waller, takes part in an experiment at the Royal Society, Burlington House, London. With one fore-leg and one hind-leg in separate pots of salt solution connected to Einthoven's string galvanometer, his heart-beat is recorded on a lime-lit sheet, a thread vibrating with each heart-beat. Several ladies in the audience also took part in the experiment, dipping their hands into the saline solution pots, and their hearts were found to be steadier than Jimmy's.
