Details |
Scenes showing women carrying on and fulfilling men's roles during the First World War while husbands, fathers, brothers and sons serve in the trenches. In this case, perhaps displaying the bias of the Illustrated Sporting & Dramatic News in which this illustration was published, the lady in question gardens, farms, exercises horses, goes hunting, feeds his game birds and looks after a convalscent charger. The title alludes to the popular, patriotic WW1 song written by Ivor Novello and Lena Ford.
