Description King Alexander I of Greece and his wife
Details

King Alexander of Greece(1893-1920) with his wife, Madame Aspasia Manos of Athens(1896-1972), a commoner. The unofficial civil marriage ceremony was conducted in secret in November 1919, but was not dynastically recognised by the royal family or state. The couple are pictured here in Paris during their exile from Greece. Due to the controversey surrounding the marriage, Aspasia was styled Princess Aspasia of Greece and Denmark following Alexander's death in 1920.
