A photograph taken at Devonshire House Historical Costume Ball held during the Diamond Jubilee festivities of 1897, of King George V (then Duke of York), dressed as George Clifford, Earl of Cumberland (distinguished Naval commander in the reign of Elizabeth I and one of her favourites) and Queen Mary (then Duchess of York) in the costume of a lady of the Court of Marguerite of Valois, wife of Henry of Navarre (1572), the hero of Ivry (1590).
