Photograph showing Morris dancers who headed by the master of ceremonies on horseback make a brave show in their snow-white shirts and floral chaplets. Another tradition took place on May Day called 'Sanding' where people decorate the pavements with coloured sand making messages and patterns. According to tradition the custom originated with weddings dating back to 1017, the father of the bride's house was sprinkled with grains of sand, to bring the bride to be joy and many children.
