Date 1926
Description Lady Diana Cooper as a china figure, Venice, 1926
Details

Lady Diana Cooper, formerly Lady Diana Manners, in her china costume which she intended to wear to Baroness D'Erlanger's Ball at the Fenice Theatre in Venice. However, due to the attendance of the Prince of Piedmont, she was unable to wear it as it was contrary to Italian State etiquette to wear a mask in front of royalty. According to Cecil Beaton, who visited Venice that season, she instead appeared in a crinoline and turban and sat 'furiously picking her nose'!
