Colossal statue of a winged human-headed lion from the North-West Palace of Ashurnasirpal II at Nimrud (Kalhu), exhibited at the British Museum, London, in 1850 having faced an incredible (and dangerous) joureny from Iraq to England following excavated by Austen Henry Layard in the late 1840s. Two visitors, in Victorian dress, are shown viewing the sculpture.
