Description Lascar Seamen at work and at rest, 1906
Details

Series of Photographs showing Lascar seamen at work in the stokehole of a passenger liner (centre image) and at rest in the Home for Asiatic Seamen (bottom images). Lascar seamen were employed on many of the coal-fired steam-ships from Britain to India and Australia as they were well suited to the terrific heat from the stokeholes on these voyages.
