Description | Leicester's Roman remains excavated, 1936 |
Details |
Drawing by Alan Sorrell of excavations in progress in the city of Leicester in 1936 led by Kathleen Kenyon. The excavated Roman remains were initially thought by Kenyon to be a Roman forum, with the Roman-era Jewry Wall beside the site part of a basilica. However, later excavations showed that the site was probably a bath complex and the Jewry Wall part of that. The Illustrated London News in 1937 reports the find as the forum.
