Description Locomotive balloon in Vauxhall Gardens
Details

The locomotive balloon designed by a Mr Bell, a forerunner of the 20th century Zeppelin, which made several ascents at the famous Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens in the 1850s. Lord Palmerston prohibited balloon exhibitions which eventually led to the closure of the gardens.
