Description | Longchamp arrests Hugh de Puiset |
Details |
William Longchamp, Bishop of Ely, arrests Hugh de Puiset (Hugh Pudsey) at Tickhill Castle. Longchamp, a favourite of Richard I, had been given authority to govern England while the King was away on the Third Crusade. Following complaints from de Puiset, the Bishop of Durham, he was given authority over the country north of the Humber River. This did not go down well with Longchamp who outmanoeuvred his rival.
