Lord Horatio Kitchener of Khartoum (1850 - 1916), British military leader and statesman, pictured with his Excellency Mohamed Mahmoud Seliman Bey, the governor of the Suez Canal and president of the Port Said municipality. At the time, Kitchener was consul-general in Egypt, and was attending a garden party to celebrate the inauguration ceremony in connection with the new drainage scheme for the town of Port Said. Kitchener is seen holding the malacca cane presented to him by the municipality.
